Our Story

Sex is taboo in many cultures around the world. As members of the South Asian diaspora, we noticed conversations around sex were minimal to none. Even when they were being had, pleasure always felt like an afterthought.

Thaen Pot (“thaen” means honey in the Tamil language) is a South Asian Canadian woman-owned business with a curated collection of handpicked products for the every day human, like you.

We strive to keep our prices fair and competitive. By supporting Thaen Pot, you support a small independent business. And yes, we package orders so that they arrive discreetly. Your secret is safe with us!

Please note our shop is temporarily closed while we work on something new and exciting!

The Birth of Thaen X

Thaen X is an online publication committed to creating a safe space for conversation around sexual health and wellness within the South Asian Diaspora. With our platform, we are challenging the stigmas around sex and intimacy by centring marginalized South Asian voices. We hope to achieve this through curated editorial content that thoughtfully explores pleasure through personal essays, opinions, lifestyle, and health content.

Thaen X strives to create content that works towards normalizing a culture of consent and care. Additionally, we hope that this space allows our writers to explore and unpack how power permeates and shapes cultural norms and practices. We seek to continue questioning the ways in which gender, sexuality, agency and autonomy exist within the South Asian Diaspora.

Thaen X is dedicated to fostering an environment for mentorship and looks forward to supporting new and early-career writers. We recognize the racist, discriminatory and exploitative nature in which the mainstream media treats BIPOC writers and community organizers. Thus, we are committed to supporting our writers by paying them for their work and providing mentorship. In the future we hope to launch fellowship programs to further support writers and creatives.

Thaen X regularly accepts pitches from BIPOC writers, particularly women, non-binary, queer and trans folks. While we welcome contributors with professional and academic expertise in this area, Thaen X encourages folks with lived experience (no writing experience necessary) to pitch to us. For more information on how to pitch to us, please see our FAQs.
